Who are you Andy?
I am Andy N Smith, and I am currently based out of the Junction in Toronto, Canada.
What do your days look like? It seems that you spend a lot of time wandering in the streets, exploring shapes, shadows, reflexions, looking for an angle.
I make sure to always have my camera on me wherever I’m going. I usually get around by foot, or bike, which both allow me the time to observe my surroundings obsessively. I still see new things to photograph outside my front door, so a lot of times I do not have to wander far.
Give me 2 songs you like at the moment.
Paul Simon – Mother and Child Reunion
Jim Croce – Operator
What’s your equipment and why this choice?
Right now I’m using a Fujifilm x30. I chose this camera because its small and easy to carry–combined with the fact that it allows me to capture high resolution images.
I like the importance of sharp shadows in your work. How do you do when there’s only clouds in the sky of Toronto?
Thank you. On overcast days, I still shoot a lot. But you’re right, sunlight is important to my work. I will often revisit locations I photographed on cloudy days, to re-shoot at a better time of day/when the sun is out.
Today, you have more than 36K followers on Instagram, can you explain this recent success and how it happened?
I try to post as often as I can, and I think as a result, that keeps people engaged. I’m very lucky to have so many people interested my work, I definitely do not take it for granted.
What’s your projects for the future?
Soon I will be offering high quality prints. Keep an eye open at www.andys-eyes.com
Thank you Andy!
